Jules Dalou

Jean-Baptiste Boussingault (1801–1887)
modeled 1888–90, cast 1888–1896
Jean-Baptiste Boussingault was a chemist who made his most significant contributions in agriculture; he also served as an elected politician. Dalou’s portrait presents the sitter with his brows furrowed in thought and medals pinned to his jacket. A version of this portrait bust forms part of Boussingault’s tomb in Paris’s Père Lachaise cemetery.
