Venus Bathing

During the sixteenth century, excavations in and around Rome uncovered examples of Greco-Roman art unknown to a preceding generation of sculptors. This statuette of Venus bathing, based on a model by Giambologna, reflects the growing popularity of classical subjects inspired by antique sculpture.
